Nickname Creation Rules - Allowed Characters

What characters are allowed to be used in a nickname?

Definition of character sets:

The characters that may be used to create nicknames depends on the subscription level you have on that nickname.

You do not need a special nickname to subscribe to any of our services like Plus, Extreme, VIP, VIP Plus, Brilliant or paid 'premium rooms'.

A special nickname, and the various combinations and levels Plus through Brilliant have a premium cost, and are purely 'decorative' in function.

Types of nicknames:

Regular nicknames
Most nicknames you see are 'regular' nicknames.

  • Basic latin alphabet and connecting characters between 5 and 30 characters

Nicknames where the user has a subscription that allows Arabic characters in the nickname
At the moment we do not support Arabic characters or other symbols in nicknames.

Users that have a subscription that allows Vietnamese characters in the nickname
At the moment we do not support Vietnamese characters or other symbols in nicknames.

Users that have a subscription that allows decorative characters in the nickname
At the moment we do not support decorative characters in nicknames.

Users that have a subscription that allows short nicknames 2-5 characters

Known as a 'Short nickname subscription'

  • Basic latin alphabet, dash, underbar.
  • Requires a special subscription.

Users that have a subscription that allows 1 character nicknames

  • Any Basic latin alphabet character.
  • Requires a special subscription.

Rules for creating nicknames:

  • The nickname should be something readable that is clear and can be spoken out loud.
  • May not be offensive in any way.

Detailed nickname rules

  • Consecutive connecting characters are not allowed (examples space, space or space, dash, space).
  • May not contain reserved words like Matrix, Moderator and Admin.
  • Must be at least 5 characters (short nicknames are exempted from this).
  • May not be all numeric (short nicknames are exempted from this).
